Find an arrow by name

Every single arrow here keeps its official Unicode name, and the search box reads those names. Type a direction (left, right, up, down, north east), a shape (double, curved, wave, harpoon, open headed) or a use (return, clockwise) to narrow the list.

Where the arrows come from

  • Simple arrows (U+2190 to U+21FF): the main Arrows block, with single, double (⇒), triple (⇛), dashed (⇢) and harpoon (⇀) arrows. These are the safest to use anywhere.
  • Long arrows (U+27F0 to U+27FF): stretched versions such as ⟶ and ⟹, handy in notes and maths.
  • Dingbat arrows: heavy, decorative arrows such as ➜ ➤ ➳ from the Dingbats block.
  • Curved and more arrows (U+2900 to U+297F): corner arrows such as ⤴ ⤵, arrows with tails, and arrows used in logic and maths. A few of these may show as boxes on older phones.

Arrows in documents and code

For a process in a document (Step 1 → Step 2), the plain → is the one most fonts draw well. In HTML you can write it as → or with its number from the table below. The arrow emoji (➡️ ⬅️ ⬆️) are colored and wider, which suits messages better than documents.

Questions

How do I type an arrow symbol?

Copy it from this page and paste it. Some apps, such as Word, also turn -> into → automatically, but that depends on the app's settings.

What is the difference between → and ➡️?

→ is a text arrow that follows the color and size of the text. ➡️ is an emoji with its own color and box, drawn differently on each phone.

Which arrow means implies in logic?

The double arrow ⇒ (rightwards double arrow) is the usual sign for implies, and ⇔ for if and only if.

Why do some arrows show as empty boxes?

The font on that device has no drawing for that character. Arrows from the simple block show almost everywhere; rarer curved arrows may not.
